LAC DE CRENO – LOCATION
The celebrated Creno Lake is located in the Deux-Sorru region of west Corsica, about 70 km northeast of Ajaccio near the picturesque Soccia village.
This remote hamlet exuding an authentic Corsican character enjoys a backdrop of Monte Sant’Eliseo where ancient granite houses are exposed to breathtaking vistas across the valley.

LAC DE CRENO – TRAIL
This easy hike begins at the foot of a large metal cross in the parking area above the Soccia village.
The round trip takes about 2h30min- 3h30min, depending on your physical condition and whether you are travelling with children. You will cover a distance of 6.46 km. Starting at an altitude of 1010 m, the trail gradually ascends to finally end at 1340 m where the lake is positioned. Clearly visible indicators are marked with yellow paint.
The first part of the hike is fairly rocky and exposed to the rays of strong Corsican sun, while the last gentle section is shaded by the surrounding pine trees.
Within an hour into your walk, you will pass a turning for the summit of Monte Sant’Eliseo (1511 m), offering a magnificent panorama over the west coast. Included in the hike, this additional attraction adds another 2 hours to your round trip. You may forgo it and stay on the main path.
As you enter the wooded area of the trail, you can replenish your water reserves at the Funtana di a Veduvella, a freshwater spring which may, however, dry out in late summer.
From there, it is only a short walk to the serene banks of the magical Creno Lake, your perfect picnic spot.
