HOW MANY DAYS?
To fully immerse yourself in Corsica’s beautiful nature and culture try to dedicate at least 7-10 days to your visit. One week on the island will allow you to unwind and relax on the beach but will also give you an opportunity to discover the area.
If you are in a position to set aside 14 days for your holiday, you will be able to cover more ground enjoying a comprehensive Corsican experience. To make the most of your time pick two locations to explore both north and south Corsica in depth.
WHEN TO VISIT CORSICA?
SPRING
Spring is a fabulous, and a very romantic time to explore the island. In April and May, Corsica’s abundant vegetation explodes in a colourful medley of wildflowers filling the air with addictive scents. The skies are clear with the sun offering the long-awaited warmth. However, on occasions, you may expect strong winds, especially in Cap Corse and Bonifacio. Sea water is still on the cooler side but swimming is certainly possible. June brings intense sun and higher temperatures making beach recreation more enjoyable.
SUMMER
July and August are peak season months on the island when Corsica receives the highest number of visitors. Apart from crowds and more congested roads, other disadvantages include the soaring prices of accommodation and transport, making vacation considerably pricier.
On the other hand, summer is a great time for travel around Corsica. Weather is certain to be sunny, days are long, followed by balmy evenings while the sea water temperature grants comfortable bathing. All of Corsica’s top attractions are accessible, waiting to be discovered.
AUTUMN
In September the crowds start to thin out and summer’s blazing sunlight gives way to a gentler, much more soothing aura. Both, the coastal areas and mountainous hideaways become calmer with nature progressively taking back the reigns. Temperatures remain comfortable, below 30°C and water is at its warmest. Occasional cloudy, or even rainy days announce the arrival of autumn.
October is the preferred visiting month for older travelers seeking cooler yet sunny weather but it is also a nice time for hiking. November may get fairly wet although there have been years when a true Indian summer provided an opportunity for the last sea dips.
WINTER
Corsica is not an obvious location for winter due to colder weather and fewer transport options. However, those who decide to spend a week or two on the island will appreciate its unmatched natural beauty and peaceful ambience. Many destinations from the above list will be too quiet to consider as a holiday base but places such as Ajaccio, Bastia, Corte, or Ile Rousse remain lively year-round.
USEFUL TIP – With half of the island’s territory protected, accommodation in Corsica is limited. If you are planning your visit in high season, make your reservations as early as possible to take advantage of a broader choice of available places.
