1. CAP CORSE PENINSULA

Cap Corse is a beautifully rugged 40-kilometer long, 15-kilometre wide peninsula forming the northeastern tip of Corsica, bordered by Bastia and Saint Florent. Isolated until the 19th century, it retains a unique identity featuring unspoiled, windswept landscapes. The Serra mountain range runs through its centre, peaking at Cima di e Folicce (1322m).

The peninsula’s east coast boasts gentle, cloaked in vineyards slopes descending into the sea, offering views of Italian islands. Its west coast, however, is wilder, with dramatic cliffs and virginal Mediterranean vegetation.

This stunning territory is dotted with Romanesque chapels, historic monuments, and Genoese towers. Postcard-perfect villages clinging to the hills showcase unique architecture, including neoclassical Tuscan-style Maisons Americaines. At sunset, this enchanting place oozes a mystical atmosphere enhanced by the interplay of light and shadows.

SCENIC DRIVE

The coastal D80 road around Cap Corse is a renowned scenic drive perfect for an exciting day trip. Tracing the peninsula’s shoreline for 120 km, it offers breathtaking views of Mediterranean seascapes and historic sites. On its west side, the narrow corniche features steep sections and sheer drop-offs making it challenging for inexperienced drivers. For the best experience, drive slowly and take regular breaks to enjoy Cap Corse’s sublime scenery.

If you wish to enjoy a comprehensive out-and-out tour of Cap Corse, you will have to stop for a few days in one of the peninsula’s charming hotels as one day is simply not enough to experience all the attractions.

Crystal-clear river cascading down in a succession of emerald pools and rocky slides where children (and adults alike) love to have fun is surrounded by ancient pine forests and towering rocky summits.

A narrow road tracing the river’s curves culminates at Bergeries de Grotelle, a starting point for Corsica’s emblematic hike to a pair of high-altitude lakes, Melo and Capitello. The scenery in upper Restonica is reminiscent of Tolkien’s magical Rivendell otherworld- tall waterfalls, steep rocky cliffs and a paradisiacal river, all swathed in lush green vegetation.
