HIKING IN CORSICA

Many travellers choose to explore Corsica’s epic landscapes on foot, at their own pace, fully immersed in the island’s magnificent natural universe. The thousand kilometres of well-marked scenic trails crossing the wild territory grant superlative walking opportunities and excellent outdoor infrastructure with suitably equipped refuges and hostels welcoming visitors even in the most isolated areas.

The hiking season generally lasts from May to mid-October, however, some of the insular scenery reveals its true magic when ornamented with a glossy cover of white winter snow.

The classic long-distance sea-mountain trails are known not only for their superb scenery but also for the challenging, stony paths dotted with taxing climbs and technical descents. GR20, Mare a Mare and Tra Mare e Monti, the most famous Corsican routes winding through the island’s iconic sights, attract innumerable outdoor enthusiasts looking to concur the untamed habitats.

Many sublime natural landmarks are also easily accessible to less experienced day hikers wishing to discover the real Corsica. The regions of Niolo and Alta Rocca boast some of the most emblematic scenery with tall mountain peaks dominating green river valleys and sombre old forests. The herb-scented coastal paths of Desert des Agriates, Cap Corse or the rugged west coast reveal a wholly different environment where the Mediterranean seascapes dazzle with a kaleidoscope of vibrant azure hues.

No matter where you decide to set up your base in Corsica, the breathtakingly unspoilt scenery is always around the corner waiting to be found.
